Royal Mail has said that the strikes have delayed 35 million items. That’s 35 million bits of business that other providers could be taking.

Many small businesses are still using post for business communications which could be done by email, particularly for what are seen as vital messages, including invoices.

Modernise or decline

This was the message from an independent review of the UK postal services sector from the UK government. October 2009: As postal strikes rage across the UK it appears clear the CWU have chosen to decline. We wish them a speedy goodbye into the dustbin of history.

Small Business

The Federation of Small Businesses claimed that small businesses had been hit particularly hard by the strike. They claimed that 94% of small businesses use Royal Mail exclusively, which meant that a lot of business communications had been held up by strikes. However, more and more businesses are making the decision to using email rather than post.

Parcel delivery

Non state operated parcel delivery providers include Parcel Services, Boxby,Intercargo, Pay Per Parcel, Interlink Direct and Interparcel, UPS and FedEx.
